The words don’t always come when you want them to, do they?  They prance around the edges of your consciousness, toying with you. 

Sometimes I have just left a piece I have been working on and walked away to clear my head.   That often helps to shake my mind up enough to let the words start to flow again. 

In the last couple of weeks I have found a site called Creative Copy Challenge and it is just what I have been looking for.   This is a site that encourages writers to express themselves through set challenges.  You are given a set of 10 or so random words or writing prompts and the task is to turn them into a cohesive story.  It can be long, short or whatever you want it to be.

By taking on a couple of these challenges I have released some more creative juices in my brain and they rub off on whatever I am writing.  Don’t think you can’t use creative writing techniques in business because you certainly can and you certainly should!  It makes a huge difference in the way you connect with your clients and readers. 

This is an example of one of the writing prompts we were given and what I did with it.  If you are ever hit with writers block, I can highly recommend freeing your mind this way.

It is almost over.

Angels of release have won the war, dragging me with their splintery claws from my quota of days.  Death feels like a puzzle, pulling me through twisting tunnels towards dulling mysteries.  Why was I ever afraid of the dark?
 
I’m aware of a wet nose pushing under the covers and the whimpering of my dog. My wife, emotionally incognito, is a code I was never able to crack. She watches in elegant and distant silence. 

Stillness enters me and I quit the world to the sounds of a mournful howl and high heels leaving the room.
